IDC MarketScape Names Carbon Black a Leader for Endpoint STAP

April 13, 2017 / Patrick Morley

Today is another very exciting day for Carbon Black. We’ve been named a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Endpoint Specialized Threat Analysis and Protection (STAP) 2017 Vendor Assessment (doc #US42385717, April 2017).

Carbon Black occupies the upper right portion of the IDC MarketScape industry chart, which combines “capabilities,” “strategies” and “market share.”

The “capabilities” score measures Carbon Black’s product, go-to-market and business execution in the short term. The “strategy” score measures alignment of our strategies with customer requirements in a 3-to-5-year timeframe.

A simple glance at the chart reveals a lot about where we stand in the market. Our products, execution and strategies are all setting the standard in keeping organizations protected from advanced cyberattacks. Additionally, aligning with our customers’ requirements is a major priority for our organization. Our commitment to empowering these 3,000+ customers and listening to their cybersecurity needs is reflected by our position in this report.

The IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of information and communications technology (ICT) suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-to-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the circles. Vendor year-over-year growth rate relative to the given market is indicated by a plus, neutral or minus next to the vendor name.

While I am very proud of our position in the market, the most important validation we can get is from our customers, many of whom lauded Carbon Black.

Among some of my favorite highlights from the report:

“Customers interviewed by IDC highly praised Cb Response, choosing it over competitive solutions to improve their triage, threat hunting, incident response, and remediation processes.”

Cb Response was heralded for the rich contextual information it uses to support alerts and the ability to set up custom rules to isolate hosts, block custom malware, and automatically trigger an action in third-party products.

Cb Response was recommended for its ability to gather continuous behavioral and contextual data on millions of endpoints to investigate and rapidly respond to new threats and scale to support up to 150,000 endpoints per server cluster.

Cb Response’s “Live Response” was noted as a differentiator against competitor products for its ability to empower responders with the ability to conduct remote remediation.

Customers praised Cb Response for its extensive default functionality and the ability to run remediation scripts, collect memory and process information, and issue system-level calls.

Cb Defense was noted as a solid cloud-delivered antivirus alternative for enterprises lacking IT security resources or seeking an alternative to traditional antivirus. The IDC MarketScape report called out Carbon Black’s strategic plan to fully integrate Cb Defense and leverage its cloud-based architecture to create a unified platform with a single agent and integrated back-end infrastructure.

Both Cb Response and Cb Defense were given high praise from customers in the IDC MarketScape report.

As CTO Michael Viscuso noted in a recent blog post, Cb Response changes the game for incident responders and helps eliminate the infrastructure conflict that currently exists between security teams and IT when it comes to securing the business. As Mike notes, Cb Response scales to the largest of enterprises, supporting hundreds of thousands of endpoints. It’s no surprise that Cb Response is considered by many to be the market-leading IR and threat hunting tool.

Carbon Black’s Next-Generation Antivirus (NGAV) solution, Cb Defense, is disrupting the AV market by uniquely combining breakthrough, streaming prevention with market-leading detection and response into a single, lightweight agent delivered through the cloud. Cb Defense is helping organizations of all sizes replace traditional AV and combat the increasingly popular non-malware attacks.

This leadership designation is the latest honor for Carbon Black. We were recently named:

Please join me in congratulating the entire Carbon Black team on its leadership position in the endpoint security market.

As I’ve noted in previous blog posts, leadership equates to enhanced responsibility. We are committed to continuously improving our customers’ security with innovation, world-class customer service, and market-leading technology.
